George Foremans Knock Out the Fat Barbecue and Grilling Cookbook

For all his one-liners about big-time eating, George Foreman is a symbol of great food coupled with great nutrition. That his 45-year-old body has been able to endure boxing matches with fighters half his age is a tribute to hard work and careful nutrition–especially low-fat cooking. In his new, user-friendly cookbook, George explains how to prepare hearty, wonderful meals that won’t stress the waistline. Illustrations.

3 Stars misleading title
For a book called ‘Knock Out the Fat’, it is amazing how many recipes are included that have high amounts of fat and calories. Do not buy this book for low fat recipes. Buy it for recipes to use on indoor grill.

4 Stars Grilling Made Easy
I am enjoying using the recipes and tips about grilling. The recipes are easy to prepare and can be cooked on any type of grill whether indoor or outdoor.

There is an excellent variety of all kinds of meat, poultry and fish recipes, also vegetarian because sometimes I just feel like making something different.

I am so glad I bought this book.

5 Stars surprizingly excellent!
I bought this after I bought the grill. Having tried the recipes that came with the george foreman grill and finding them excellent, I decided to invest in a whole george forman cookbook.

The marinades are excellent! Many have few ingredients and maximum taste. While they are helpful if you have the grill they are excellent even if you don’t. Marinades are a wonderful way to grill, in general. Some of them lend themselves even to panfrying, depending on the cut of meat or poulty. While you cant use bone-in meats in the GF grill, you can use these recipes with bone-in cuts and use an alternate cooking method (grilling, broiling or baking for chicken).

This was a big surprize! At first I thought it was going to gimick-y and just a cookbook capitalizing on the GF name. But it is a *study* cookbook in its own right. excellent.

2 Stars His other book is better for the Foreman Grill
If you are looking for recipes to use on your Foreman grill pass by this book and get “George Foreman’s Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine Cookbook” ISBN# 1929862032 by George Foreman & Connie Merydith; Paperback - June 2000, Pascoe Publishing. Its written specifically for the Foreman grill and will get you the confidence to experiment on your own.

4 Stars A TASTY ONE FROM GEORGE
With this book, George Foreman demonstrated that his strong hands, which are famous for delivering painful punches, are capable of delivering delicious dishes. Cherie Calbom was his ‘corner-man’ in this fat-fight.
This cookbook is very practical in outlook: employing a step-by-step method. It explained the fundamental routines of tabling low-fat grills (and barbecue). It has a well-balanced approach: providing good tuition on both recipes and their healthiest mode of preparation.
The book will bring fun to your kitchen, and smile on your table. However, if you are interested in continuous experiments, its 176 pages may not be enough as to fulfill all your grilling desires. Support it with a more extensive cookbook for the best result.

5 Stars More Than Just Words
Received this book as a gift last christmas and like it. Good pictures accompany the written words making it a very understandable “How To” cooking book. Also there are a number of side articles that help you understand what you are doing. For example, when you go look for pork recipes they include a page showing what cuts of pork are good for grilling. I liked the book so much that I just bought another one that I will give as a gift.

4 Stars Essentials of Grilling
Great Book! Wonderful recipies from a great collection. This is my second Williams Sonoma Cookbook and I am happy.

4 Stars Good
Got the book, and looks almost like new! You could tell it was used because of the cover being scratched a bit. though on the description before I purchased, it did describe that, so I feel I received the book in good condition. Quick delivery!

5 Stars Very nice book, well put together
This book shows you how to make food that most people would think would be very difficult to make. The book simplifies things with step by step instructions. Very good book.

5 Stars OUTSTANDING
This is one of the best cookbooks we’ve ever purchased. Couldn’t be happier with the results of the recipes that we have tried so far.

5 Stars Great, Easy to Tackle Recipes!
We found this cookbook when we were looking for January posts for our website. Although we are not football fans, we ARE food fans…but this book is really interesting! The recipes are fantastic, the photographs are great, and the content is really interesting, both about the teams and the cities they represent! This book would make a great gift, not just for the football enthousiasts, but high school/college grads, fathers, grandfather’s, cheerleaders, or anyone who likes to host game parties or even likes simple, good, food. As always, to really review the book, we tried a recipe, Creamy Coleslaw, page 195, and it was not only easy, but also delicious! It may well become one of our favorite coleslaw recipes! To view the whole review, and our picture of the Creamy Coleslaw, go to our website…Enjoy!

4 Stars Great Cookbook
I bought this cookbook for my 25 year old son. Every Sunday he and his girlfriend pick out a different recipe and try it. So far everything has been great.

5 Stars Game days taste much better!
Since receiving this book we have now made several dishes each week of the season. Each recipe gets better and better. I hope to make our way thru most of them before the season is over. I highly recommend this book.

All About Braising The Art of Uncomplicated Cooking

May 12, 2009 by Outdoor Cooking · Leave a Comment

All About Braising The Art of Uncomplicated Cooking

Braising–cooking food slowly and at low temperatures in a closed pot with a little liquid–produces deeply flavorful food. Molly Stevens’s All About Braising is a definitive exploration of this soul-satisfying approach to food. With 125 simple recipes for braises of all kinds–from meat and poultry through seafood and vegetables, plus a thorough anatomy of technique (Stevens explores oven versus stovetop braising, for example)–the book will please cooks at every skill level. Most importantly, perhaps, it will send them to the kitchen to prepare enticing dishes such as Braised Endive with Prosciutto, Whole Chicken Braised with Pears and Rosemary, Duck Ragu with Pasta, and Veal Shoulder Braised with Figs & Sherry. Braises can also taste as good or better the next day, and Stevens supplies advice for second-day service. Included, too, is an “Opinionated Pantry” which, besides exploring relevant ingredients, expresses Stevens’s ongoing commitment to using only the best and freshest available.

Throughout, Stevens’s offers sensible, rewarding counsel. “If it comes down to a matter of cooking or not cooking dinner for your family,” she says, “I recommend buying commercially raised chicken [as opposed to locally produced or other naturally raised poultry]. Make a satisfying home cooked meal, and sit down and enjoy it with your family.” In other words, Stevens is wise. “The act of cooking on a regular basis will make you a better cook,” she concludes, “and will improve the quality of your life and of those around you.” –Arthur Boehm

5 Stars Cookbook
Great reading. I’ve tried a couple of the recipes already and they were very good.

5 Stars Wonderful flavor, easy preparation
A friend who’s a chef gave me this cookbook for Christmas. I’m completely hooked. The author does a great job of laying out the basic braising technique very clearly then providing recipes for application. Loved the drawings of the various braising vessels: made it very clear what the author was talking about. I enjoy cooking but am certainly not a trained chef. This book gives me enough detail that I can easily make every recipe and even modify them if I want to. Most all ingredients are easy for me to find in a large city. Well worth purchasing!

5 Stars The art and science of braising
40 lashes with a braised fennel bulb for me! I am very late in writing a most positive review for this book. I bought “All About Braising” upon its release. After cooking many of the recipes in the book, I had the good fortune of taking a class from Ms. Stevens who was teaching at a local shop. (a most excellent and enthusiastic teacher, I might add). I have never made so many short ribs and pot roasts in my life as I have since owning this book! Rather than detail my love for the various recipes, let me say that Ms. Stevens explains in understandable detail the whys and hows of the braise. And, she does it in a really well-written, unencumbered language. As I’m often known to do, I talked to so many people about this book that they’ve bought copies too!

5 Stars Love this book
Made four recipes in two weeks since I received this book. Excellent! Very informative and fun to read. Something I would ever ask is to give more suggestions for matching side dishes as the book mentions matching wines anyway.

5 Stars Great Read, Great Food!
While these are not simple recipes, the principles are recurring and braising skills will quickly improve with study and practice. This is the best cookbook I’ve owned. I highly recommend for anyone needing to revitalize their interest in cooking and enjoying a meal!
